Summary: We spent three days on Hvar during a longer trip to Croatia and were looking for a peaceful retreat in the middle of two weeks of intense tourist activity. Despite being just an easy 12 minute drive from the main parking areas for Hvar Town with its beautiful harbor and bustling restaurant scene, Riccardo and Ivana's house felt like a visit to another, older world. The house is gorgeously set on a hill overlooking a serene bay (the photos don't do it justice). The surroundings include masses of rosemary and lavender, colorful scatterings of wild flowers and plots of grapevines. Comfortable bedrooms and a surfeit of bathrooms along with a fully equipped kitchen made for an exceptionally relaxing stay. We spent each of our three evenings on one of the multiple patios, including one night when we grilled veal chops and sausages from a local butcher in the outdoor wood oven. Our host, Ivana, was accommodating and helpful (her recommendation of Dalmatino for a great meal of local feed was excellent). All in all a perfect few days. (Two quick notes -- the house really is off the beaten track, requiring a brief drive on an unpaved road and a short walk up a foot path to enter, so it's not ideal for those with LOTS of luggage :) And a friendly dog belonging to a local farmer adopted us and made for a cheerful presence -- he was polite and not at all pesty, but those who are alarmed by dogs should be aware that he's part of the scene.
