The western entrance to the Old City is called Pile gate and it is part of the Pile area. It is like all transport hubs for the whole city, especially in tourist meaning. Wooden drawbridges which use to be raised every night in the past guide you to the very center of Old City and the main street called Placa or Stradun.(There is the same gate on the opposite, eastern side of the Old City called Ploče gate).
This area offers you magnificent apartments with a view of the streets of the Old City and the Walls. Lots of shops and restaurants but mostly the vicinity of the Old City is the highlight of this area of the City of Dubrovnik.
